Podcast Review: Media Storm
Media Storm, hosted by Mathilda Mallinson and Helena Wadia, is a brilliant investigative and current affairs podcast that stands out for its critical approach to modern news reporting. Covering crucial topics such as refugees, terrorism, homelessness, violence against women, and climate solutions, the podcast goes beyond surface-level coverage, encouraging listeners to delve deeper and question mainstream narratives. What makes Media Storm particularly impactful is the way it challenges the validity of sources and calls out misinformation. The hosts expertly dissect news stories, pointing out when certain sources are used to bolster articles but are actually misrepresented or irrelevant. This thoughtful scrutiny helps listeners develop a more critical eye toward the news, avoiding the trap of blindly accepting information from major outlets or social media. Since being introduced to the podcast by my cousin in early 2024, I’ve become an avid listener and have consumed every episode. Two of my favorites include SE3E9 An Institutionally Racist Police Force: Process of Elimination and S2E8 Mental Health: The Pros and Pitfalls of Diagnosis. These episodes highlight the hosts' fearless dedication to tackling sensitive subjects with nuance, precision, and empathy. Overall, Media Storm is a must-listen for anyone who cares about uncovering the truth behind headlines. It’s not just informative—it’s a platform that empowers listeners to think critically and engage with the world more thoughtfully. Highly recommended!Read full review »

I don’t know much about any of these topics, but I’ve loved learning straight from the horse’s mouth. Also, it’s refreshing to hear journalists take responsibility for they way they inform public opinion. Definitely worth a listen!!

Here’s a podcast that makes you re-think your perspective, adds a questioning dimension so your comfort zone isn’t quite so comfortable, and does it in a way that’s intelligent, amusing and thoughtful. It feels good to listen to conversations that expand your world. Great job.
