A healthy diet helps in proper growth and can reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Adults who eat a healthy diet are said to have a lower risk of obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. It's important for people with MS to make healthy food choices: Not getting enough vitamins and minerals can worsen MS symptoms. Skipping meals may contribute to low energy levels. Some MS symptoms such as depression and MS treatments such as steroids can cause weight gain. Dr. Uma Naidoo is a nutritional psychiatrist and serves as the director of nutritional & lifestyle psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital. She has founded and directs the first hospital-based Nutritional Psychiatry Service in the United States.
