“Hey fellas,
Appreciate all you do, your content gets me through each and every week!
I’m from the northeast. More specifically, Massachusetts. Even more specifically, I’m actually a Umass season ticket holder…Believe it or not we *do* exist. Well, there’s a couple dozen of us anyway.
I know what you’re thinking - this guy is a glutton for punishment. After all, Umass hasn’t exactly lit it up since moving up to DI. In fact, the team is a combined 20-92 in that stretch, winning just about 1 game for every 5 losses!!
As I look back fondly on the 4 win Whipple years, it leads me to take a look around at the programs in the northeast and their lack of relative success.
Babers had his 10 win season in 2018 and Matty Ice managed to get BC ranked second nationally but that was all the way back in 2007! Beyond those couple seasons, there just isn’t all that much success to talk about around these parts unfortunately, which leads me to my question —
If you were leading a program in the northeast with the goal of eventually being a nationally relevant program, what steps would you take to get there? Are there still levers for programs up here to pull or do us fans in the northeast just need to admit we’ll never compete with our counterparts elsewhere in the country?
My buddies and I agreed we’d go to every Umass bowl game they managed to make when they joined DI back in 2012…it’d be nice to get one in before I’m gone!!”
