The Boxing Podcast Fans Deserves and Needs
Costello and Bunce consistently deliver great content through a combination of their own boxing expertise insights, a wide variety of interviewees and also plently of laugh out loud moments to enjoy. The change of content direction over the lockdown in 2020 was pure genius whether that was hearing from boxing greats to boxing people who I had not heard of before but they had some of the most amazing boxing stories to tell. The authentic boxing stories are what really stands out for me in this podcast because some of the stories are of old but some stories are being created over the months as you listen through the seasons as the boxing landscape is very fluid and being a "after timer" is the only way to appreciate them. Such as the recent rise and fall of Dillian Whyte, as long we heard of the continued injustice of him being the WBC number one contender as he gambled with each fight that he took but alas no more further to his recent loss and his story is passed over as the world looks forward to Fury and Joshua and the future history they will write. Such is the harshness of the business of boxing. I think this is what makes this boxing podcast unique and different is the very real stories and the boxing people behind those stories which this podcast brings to life that you just don't hear elsewhere either in podcasts or see in other boxing content formats. Whether that is a trainer pointing out that Tyson Fury did not have his face applied with the necessary vaseline in the early part of the first Wilder fight, discussing why women fight two and not three minute rounds, a young black boxer describing what racism feels like from his personal experience or a forgotten legendary photographer describing why ringside photos actually looked better in the 1960's using older technology. A positive is that they are also willing to hear fan feedback including constructive criticism or even just plain disagreements from fans and they discuss this on air, being accountable for what they have said and backing it up. I always finish a podcast with a smile on my face and glad that these Costello, Bunce and Producer Jack always put in the effort to deliver the goods week in and week out. It's a weekly tonic for old and new boxing fans alike. Keep up the great work. 10/10Read full review »
