“I love this host’s eclectic mix of guests, though I often find that his interviewing strategies stymie and limit the conversations, due to his leading questions that veer toward the abstract and his forced tone of giggly incredulity or wonder that strikes me as a bit patronizing to the folks whose experiences he means to honor. My suggestion: stop summarizing and asking for Big Analyses of character traits and make space for the guests’ stories, which will be more engaging than explanations and definitive answers. Sometimes the story itself is the “answer,” you know?”
