Come for the history, stay for the interviews

I found this podcast while trying to learn more about the history of belly dance after I became president of my university’s belly dance club. I listened to multiple belly dance podcasts to try to get a full picture about the development of different styles and how belly dance has been used. But I keep coming back to this one for interviews with dancers that discuss what different belly dance styles are like today. I especially like how the host has her guest *describe* their favorite dance move because it has really helped me learn different ways to teach moves new dancers can struggle with whether they’re new club members or dancers at public workshops.

I have to admit though, Aditi Natesa Belly Dance Club believes in the power of the safety pin as strongly as good writers believe in the Oxford comma (it helps that our costumes are old hand-me-downs so it’s justifiable).

It’s obvious that this show is a labor of love and I’m so grateful it’s here as a resource. Thank you!
