A major minor poet
Clive James asked for that to be his legacy. He’s unlikely to have that wish granted as he was so much more. His writings a well as his broadcasts and his songs have formed part of the background of my life for as long as I can remember. My development as a humanist was guided by him as if he was actually there with me. His joyous sharing of all he read and loved has led me to writers and works that have changed my life. These few spoken essays are a glimpse of the gift he had for bringing out the humanity in everything, as well as his unselfconscious declarations of love and empathy.
