    MELANIE SULAVER- Pregnant/Postpartum Nutrition

    MELANIE SULAVER- Pregnant/Postpartum Nutrition

Today I am speaking with Mel Sulaver, a registered dietitian working to bridge the gap between women’s health and performance nutrition. As speaker, counselor, and coach, she works primarily with women in sport, focusing on disordered eating, amenorrhea, low energy availability and relative energy deficiency in sport. We talk about:
-the shift in identity from athlete to athlete and mother
-addressing a history of body dysmorphia and disordered eating behavior as part of family planning
-understanding nutrient needs and how they shift during pregnancy and postpartum
-breastfeeding and lactating athletes nutrient needs, support, planning
    -advocating for therapy
    -eating disorder versus disorder eating
    -breastfeeding and weight loss
    -realistic expectations

SOLO Episode- How soon can I get back to workouts after delivery?

SOLO Episode- How soon can I get back to workouts after delivery?

In today’s solo episode, I’m going to answer one of the most common questions I get in my DMs and emails: When is it safe to workout after I’ve had my baby? While there is not a one-size-fits-all answer to this questions, there are some basically guidelines and milestones that are a good place to start when you’re making this decision for yourself. Of course, talking to a medical professional is a good idea, but if you don’t have access to someone who “gets it”, this is a good place to start!

    I talk about:
    -starting with general advice
    -returning to running
    -energy deficiency in postpartum
    -starting with walking
    -adapting the readiness screen
    -coping in the first year

    Time Stamps
    1:00 Introduction
    3:00 returning to run advice
    4:34 soft tissue healing time
    6:08 adapting to different phases
12:45 the roll of your transverse abdominals
    20:40 after maternity leave
    24:20 listener questions

Insightful and informative conversations!

Dr.Carrie Pagliano does a fantastic job at delving into active mother lifestyles, as well as, postpartum mental health and care. However, Dr.Waggel’s episode on perinatal mental health was particularly captivating, focusing in on intrusive thoughts and exercise during pregnancy, providing a new outlook on maternal mental health!

Real, Raw Conversations

Carrie is a great host that asks direct, powerful questions to get the guests providing empowering answers. As a guest, Andrea Herbert, Carrie was engaging and I LOVED our conversation. I wish this podcast existed for me years ago!! Thank you, Carrie!!

Love this!

“Active Mom Podcast” offers a unique perspective on the pregnancy and postpartum experience. I started listening with the most recent episode featuring Dr. Stephanie Waggel. Her perspective on medication management for mental and physical health issues during pregnancy were so reassuring. I didn’t know I could see a psychiatrist who specializes in perinatal health. Will definitely be recommending her to my pregnant friends. Excited to listen to more episodes!
