The name Mark Brandon "Chopper" Read is a by-word for crime and violence in Australian society. The foul deeds he confessed to appalled and fascinated us but how much of it was true? The character he dreamed up in a jailhouse book became an Australian icon after Eric Bana played Chopper in the hit movie. Read then made his living from playing the man he saw on the screen.
