Been binging the podcast all day. Really brings a sensitive and serious issue to life with humor and insights. It is well produced and dramatizes unique aspects of history. Particularly found the episode on Spielberg interesting not just for the juxtaposition between Jurassic Park and Schindler...Read full review »

Dara Horn book was groundbreaking & this podcast add to that in relaying these Jewish stories. I hoped there would be more. Definitely recommend this podcast & her book to anyone & everyone.

The other reviewer is on point, interesting topics but what on earth is going on with this host? Please, get someone else and whilst you’re there stop with the over production. There is no need for music. I just spent an episode being shouted & rambled at so why torture me even more with the...Read full review »

Dara Horn does a tremendous job in covering this subject. There’s an incredible dark humor and cutting truth to her new podcast and book, “People Love Dead Jews.” Many in the world are shameful, as to whether or not they are willing to confront the truth in their own hearts and thoughts as to how...Read full review »

Dara’s scholarship and attention to detail is coupled with her unmatched story-telling talent makes her podcasts not just informative and educational, but engaging and addictive. Not many authors can take their impeccable writing skills and translate those to verbal narration. Dara Horn harnesses...Read full review »

While waiting for the promised next edition, I’ve been re-listening to the original series smack in the middle of Kanye West’s latest antisemitic raging, which horribly echoes the “Protocols” tropes that Horn reminds us entire empires have embraced time and again. Plus ca change…

As my friend Walter Sobchak says “3000 years of beautiful traditions from Moses to Sandy Kofax”. Dara Horn tells some great tales of amazing real life Jews. If only Dara could have been my Hebrew School teacher, I may have not gotten thrown out of class like I was back in the day. Only have two...Read full review »

Would love to listen to this, but the host’s overly affected narration is too grating. It’s also over-produced with excessive use of music, which, rather than set tone and mood, simply distracts. Content I’d like to consume, but too over-egged.

You highlight the twisted carnival humor of history . And you are like a fun house mirror but instead of distorting you point out the distortions of polite homogenized history.

One of my favorite podcasts. I love the way she delivers information. She acknowledges the humor inherit in history while giving these stories a context I haven’t heard anyone else do.

Even if you know a lot of Jewish history, you are sure to learn something new when you listen to Adventures with Dead Jews. I also love all of Dara Horn’s books. Highly recommend!

The carnival music is distracting and not up to the intellectual level of the writing.

Dara Horn knows how to tell a story and she’s clearly done her homework. As the title suggests, many of these episodes tell painful and heartbreaking tales of antisemitism throughout history, but she backs her interpretations with evidence and had me fully engaged from the first show. I picked up Dara Horn’s book “People Love Dead Jews” and could not put it down. She is brilliant in reassessing how we talk and teach about Jews, anti-Semitism, and the Holocaust. Totally transformed how I thought about all of this. So naturally I wanted more Dara Horn and got it in this...Read full review »

…is like nails on a chalkboard. I’ve long wondered why non-professional podcasters and YouTubers don’t do just enough voice training to ensure that they’re easy to listen to. I enjoyed (if that’s the right word) Horn’s book on people loving dead Jews. It’s long overdue, well written, etc. Have...Read full review »

Thank you, Dara Horn, for making this podcast filled with stories about film, history, Yiddish literature, and, remarkably not so devastatingly- dead Jews. Just so incredibly witty and smart and interesting with a basis of humanity and a sprinkle of just the right amount of sarcasm. My favorite!

My mom loves Dara Horn so I’ve resisted reading her books. But, I intend to do so now. This podcast taught me a lot, made me want to read more, and made me laugh a lot. You should listen. As a lover of Jewish history, I was hooked from the first episode. I love Dara’s dry, dark humor - which is completely necessary given some of the topics addressed. Can’t recommend it enough!

Some really great stories in here, but her comedian schtick can get a little much, like in episode 3. She sounds like a fake hipster trashing the movie because that makes her seem cool.

Imagine a host of superlatives here. This is an outstanding piece of work, a provocative, intelligent, nuanced, sharply reasoned and brilliantly presented. I hope it does not end at the seventh episode.

Have listened to three episodes so far, all of them great. Only very minor quibble is that I think the background music is unnecessary and even a bit distracting.

Dara Horn does a great job of unpacking Jewish identity and exploring its rejection and dilution through Western history to the present day.

Fascinating look into the lives of noteworthy Jews, not in ancient history, who we probably never heard of. I must admit to sometimes using podcasts as a means of falling asleep. That won’t work with Dara Horn’s stories. Her voice and presentation are just too engaging.

This is my new favorite podcast - equal parts enlightening, entertaining, amusing, and horrifying -- a hard mix to achieve but if anyone can pull it off, it's Dara Horn. This is THE perfectly-timed podcast for Jews in 2021. It touches on all the elements of Jewish life, history, and antisemitism that are occupying our Jewish zeitgeist.
