“Fantastic episode. This hits right where many of the most difficult issues we face as a country exist. People want to believe they control most things they encounter. They do not want to think probability or statistics is in play. Look around and you see it everywhere. Healthcare, social issues, politics, sports, crime. It’s everywhere. People live to make judgements and decisions based on anecdotes not on statistics. Granted the issue is that statistics are not certain. But they are generally far more certain than not. People know one person that got sick from a vaccine and then thinks vaccine bad makes you sick. Statistics say otherwise but the anecdote holds so much power for many.”
