“As somewhat of a newbie to Christie, I find this podcast both educational and entertaining (the hosts do a fantastic job!) to listen to, and, while I’ve only read a bit of her works, it’s been helpful to familiarize myself with basically what to expect and look for and know when I read. Also, I like that Kemper and Catherine take such scientific, exacting measures to explore and explain the books so thoroughly. Plus their chemistry is just pretty hilarious!
I was actually quite overwhelmed by how many podcast episodes there are (with many more to come!), but, over the course of several months, I finally am current, though having only read a few of Christie’s books (The Body in the Library, Death on the Nile, And then there were none, Murder on the Orient Express, and some of the collected short stories of Poirot).
I guess what I’m saying is that you don’t need to feel that you have to read them all to enjoy this podcast, and that just the show and explanations given therein are enough to understand and know generally what each story is about. Having said that, I do plan to read as much Christie as I can (over several years... lol!) and I would say that the podcast is, at the same time, at a pretty high level so for any die hard Christie fans out there who are well acquainted with her works and the plays and movies and tv shows, then, there is much that you would also find quite interesting and informative in these episodes.
It’s a podcast for any book lover, really, and I appreciate, especially, the candor and personalities of the hosts. I do think they can be a bit critical at times, but not to a fault, I feel, but simply trying to do justice to the books, Christie, and understanding the books as they were both meant to be received when written and how we should feel about (or how we may feel about, anyway) them today.
Anyway, it’s a podcast I look forward to now every week and one that I’m glad to have found! Thanks for all of your hard work, Kemper and Catherine!”
