“Dear Chris,
As fascinated as I am by your mind and your willingness to put the more correct adjective (for example, you were a leader in asking if we should just be calling Trump a frank liar and not a truth bender or some “ more” acceptable adjective), I am writing to you for first time after years of being a solid fan of your show. Is the time right for you to consider putting a stop to blaming only the right wing media for releasing the brakes on previously taboo racist laden narratives? It takes two parties to tango; the Tucker Carlson’s of the world and his viewers, as an example. I feel to portray these viewers as some sort of passive “good Americans” who just happened to be watching without holding their own pre-existing biases just doesn’t do enough justice to the discussion at hand. I just hope that taking a moral stand against the viewers and not just the media won’t take many more tragedies like we had in Buffalo. At some point, someone has to call a clear “spade a spade”. That does not include using existing euphemisms like “ America’s historical struggle with racial divides”. I am hoping MSNBC can hold a town hall in order to broach this taboo gingerly in the vein of “ how do we talk about this, should we talk about this, what is the journalists moral and ethical obligation?” It would be nice to have clergy, academic ethicists, sociologists, linguists, historians, media consultants, you and a couple of your brave colleagues ( Mehdi, Rachel, Lawrence, Ali, Nicole etc all come to mind immediately).
Thanks you so much. Gosh I hope this “ review” had the fortune to be read by your eyes.
