This well-written, well-acted radio play will keep you listening. The episodes are quick and captivating, and the sound mix could not be better. I could “see” every moment.

Great story, nicely narrated, top cast. Felt like watching a movie.

No movie ever kept me under such tension Actors just incredible For me - it’s first time I truly imagined how people in October of 1938, that tuned into CBS, could believe The war of the worlds was real

this one is different, in a good way. it’s a dramatization of events. you feel like you’re listening to a movie. definitely a crazy story, and the way it’s told makes it feel like you’re living in it. very well done.

Kept me on the edge of my seat, the episodes always left me on a cliff hanger.they had a perfect combination of true crime with a story mixed in. 10/10

Except voice acting, interesting story that was fast-paced and engaging, but wanted to hear more of the original and real discussions, good listen

The most gratuitous amount of cursing I’ve ever heard in a podcast, totally unnecessary
Jerdpaul via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 10/26/22
This podcast is by far the best true crime series that I came across. The voice actors all do an excellent job making the story come to life. I never knew this even happened in the 70’s. It was really intriguing.

Excellent! I love true crime genre but typically have not listened to re-enactments. Such a fascinating story and a beautiful time piece. Dark yet heartwarming. Feels so close to present day politics (sadly). We need to remember we’re all Americans and fellow men. Love it! Highly recommend!!

Really enjoyed this dramatised audio version of a true story. John Hamm is excellent in the lead role and the guy who plays Tony Kiristis (sorry, can’t recall his name) is also great 👍 Brilliant production and not toooo many ads. I would definitely like to listen to more podcasts like this!

Eh
Hamm should stick to the Progressive scripts.

Wow! It was fascinating to know that this actually took place in history in the United States. Very creative and definitely engaging.

Not only is the story right there but the voice actors are on point, the sounds, editing, effects everything is perfect! This just shows what is to come in the audio world!

I forgot I was running and ran 17 miles by the time the podcast finished. I’ve never ran 17 miles in my life, so that was cool. The story’s great too!

Great performances, the actor who plays Tony is particularly good

This is a story that podcasts were made for. I absolutely loved the set up for how this real life event was told. And utilizing radio as a storytelling device within the podcast medium was perfection. The cast lead by Jon Hamm delivers knockout performances and keeps you on the edge of your seat....Read full review »

I had never heard of this event. I was very young when it took place, I am a big history buff and never came across this event. The ending I didn’t much like. It was a tad bit confusing to me. I do encourage all ears to listen to it. It is an excellent tale.

This deserves five stars!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Why is it getting any rating less than?! Crazy!

Excellent! Would recommend! Loved all of it except maybe the unnecessary voice over narration but otherwise fantastic! Dylan Baker was a particular favorite performance! Superb!

This was creatively done. I’m sad it’s over. This series has raised the bar for all future podcasts. Jon Hamm is amazing at his craft, as are the other voice actors.

Not sure what all the hype was about. The story is boring, the voice acting is campy. Not great

An amazing true story brought to life. The voices and sound design, as well as the actual story keep you engaged through every episode. Must listen

The episodes are short but it’s engaging. Actors did a great job. Immersive podcasts are the best. However, the ending is abrupt and anticlimactic. The ending ruined the whole thing. It was a lot of build up to not much at all.

Very impressive. It came across as very visual. Really great.

This podcast was amazing! I love the old radio shows where one had to use their imagination and the acting was so powerful, imagining the action was easy. I wish they do more. These actors were so passionate in their delivery. No CGI or suspenseful music to drive the story-pure art.
Jacquie1965 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 04/26/22
It was a awesome show I looked forward to each episode coming out. It was amazing.

Entertaining, but a 25 minute podcast has 5+ minutes of previews and thanks.
onebladerz via Apple Podcasts · Canada · 04/26/22
Unexpectedly enjoyable. I love good fiction stories and this one is one of the good ones. The voice actors are actually good and I find myself getting lost in the story rather than feeling like I’m being read to. Something that doesn’t happen often with some of the storytelling podcasts.
kclamm via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 04/26/22
I loved all 8 episodes! I could see it all in my minds eye, Fred’s office, Tony’s home and Dick’s face. This got me to really understand when my mum would talk about days of sitting around the radio listening to serials. All of the actors did a fantastic job bringing it all to life. Hats off...Read full review »

The closing line of the show is, verbatim: "For me, it took almost three full days of a hostage crisis to realize that America was the biggest hostage of them all." If that doesn't make your eyes roll straight back into your brain, maybe you will have a satisfying time with this show.Read full review »

When I got bored of listening listening to the variety of other series I was listening to; I spent 20 minutes going through to find new shows to listen to while at work. I’ll admit artwork to a podcast truly draws me in but this time it was the description. Anyways, it was basically kick of the...Read full review »

Over produced, over dramatized. Drawn out waaaay too long. Just watch TV or listen to a book. I hate that all the dinosaur media think they need to ruin the podcast genre. If Jon Hamm’s name isn’t associated with this it never gets made. It never should have. Skip it and find something...Read full review »

Compelling story but fell short in my opinion. I enjoy the format. Listen to 1865 if you enjoy the “radio play” format as well. These episodes were too short and perhaps I was too busy making dinner but the final episode was odd to me. Couldn’t understand exactly how things ended the way they...Read full review »

I don’t usually listen to “radio dramas” but this one was really engaging. I was a freshman in high school and lived right outside of Indianapolis. This was so spot on, especially Tony Kiritsis’s voice. Everyone was absolutely captivated and glued to every news cast, of course everyone had an opinion. I guess it was our first dose of reality TV.
Roxy the mixer via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 04/19/22
This was really more of an old radio serial broadcast, something from a 1930s variety hour. It’s not bad, but if you’re looking for a factual podcast on this incident, this isn’t it. It’s a play on the radio, complete with closing door and footstep sound effects, and melodramatic reading.

I felt this was pretty cheesy. While the story is interesting, the characters and dialogue were irritating. I’m not criticizing Tony’s part, just the others.

Idk why they complain about ads just skip them and it is so good so far I am only on 3rd episode that I’m listening
