Amory 27 | Community - Marty Loves a Trans Woman
Listen now
Description
Marty interviews his friend Dala, a trans woman living in Mexico, about identity, love, masks, pronouns, gender, sexuality, PTSD, vulnerability, safety, protesting, allies, self alignment, skin color, homophobia just to name a few. It is a powerful episode that is authentic and bold. Dala is a brilliant human with so much to share and teach the world. It was one of Marty's favorite episodes to record, and it ended up being very timely. The episode was recorded on May 15th, 2020 a couple of weeks before the protests in the US were met by violent police responses. When you listen to the episode it may seem like we were foreshadowing what was to come in the world. This episode is a raw look at a distinction between identity and the masks we wear in society. Masks can be dangerous when they become mistaken for our identity, but masks are also a survival mechanism in a cruel and ignorant world. This episode is dedicated to our LGBTQ community, our allies, and to those looking to evolve their own way of being. This episode will cause you to reflect. It may challenge your beliefs. It may make you smile. It may make you cry. But, no matter what we hope that it inspires you to help shape the world as we move forward as a planet. There is no return to normal. The new world is here. What do you want it to be like? Now is the time to be the change we wish to see in the world. We hope this conversation helps prime a deep state of understanding. I hope that it helps create a more safe world for my friend to live in her true identity without fear.  The hard truth - she's not safe.  Here are some of the resources we talk about in the episode: About PTSD - The Body Keeps Score About Ikigai - How to Ikigai (Ted Talk) About Skin Color - The Beauty of Human Skin in Every Color (Ted Talk) Support these organizations: Casa de las Muñecas Tiresias AC Casa Arcoiris Albergue Temporal The Okra Project Lastly, if this episode touched you, please share it. It is our mission at Amory to help the world with one vulnerable conversation at a time. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/megan-bhatia/support
