It is apparent to anyone who is paying attention to cultural trends that the Christian faith in America has been subjected to more challenges in the last few decades than in the first two centuries of the country’s existence. A lot of the challenges come from the fact that our surrounding culture has changed so much. And no part of our culture has changed more than how the culture views relationships, marriage, and sex. The cultural norms and mores regarding these subjects that prevailed in America’s first two centuries – and in fact for millennia before America even existed – have shifted dramatically. the effects of all these changes has been in the arena sometimes called “romance.” To say that how our society views and treats romance may be the understatement of the century.
