Almost, but not quite right.
The podcast, Anna Faris is Unqualified, was created in November 24, 2015 and is hosted by American actress Anna Faris and her producer Sim Sarna. Faris was inspired by the popular podcast Serial to create her own show, which focuses on discussing stranger’s relationship problems with her friends. When the podcast first began in 2015, each episode had two portions. The first section included conversations and a short, improvised sketch between Faris and her celebrity guest. The second part consisted of the hosts and guests giving advice to listeners who called and described their relationship problems. In January 2019, Faris and her team chose to split each podcast into two episodes. Now, one contains the introduction, conversation, and improvisation with the celebrity guest, and the second episode focuses on revisiting previous callers and receiving updates about their situation, as well as giving advice to a new caller. In part one of episode 163, Ashley Benson and Faris talk about their first acting jobs, their different experiences growing up home schooled and in public school, as well as an improv skit that set Benson and Faris at a bar in Aspen. Part two revisited callers from episode 135 with Bo Burnham, and episode 51 with Isla Fisher, and also updated the hosts on how their relationships had changed. The episode also featured a new caller who asked how she could define her relationship with her potential boyfriend. Faris, Sarna, and Benson advised the caller to instead break up with her boyfriend and to spend Valentine’s Day with a friend to prove that she deserves better than him. The podcast is dominated by Faris and focuses more on her own anecdotes than interviewing her guest. Though Faris’ stories were interesting, she overshadows her co-host and only gave her guest time to respond during the improv portion of the episode. During the advice section of the podcast, Faris assumes the role of the overly honest and unfiltered friend, but gives genuine, analytical, and interesting advice to her listeners. I was engaged due to the podcast’s unpredictability and honesty, but I would favour a more professional format without an improv portion because I find them stilted and inconsistently funny. The podcast episodes advertised healthcare brands, as well as Audible, which are a good match for the podcast’s audience and callers which range between 25 and 45-year old women. This demographic is commonly health conscious and avid readers. The ads are conversational and blend in well with the podcast, however they were not creative so I would easily get distracted during them. I would rate the podcast 2 out of 5 stars. Faris’ personal stories are entertaining and her advice is insightful, but her co-host and guests are barely noticed. I would like to hear more about the guests and their relationship with Faris but unfortunately the conversation is dominated by Faris and her goofy characters. If the podcast returned to its original, edited, one hour format I would return as a listener, however, after two hours of listening I am left vaguely enlightened and confused about who the show is really about.

I was thoroughly entertained. The first episode where Allison teaches Anna how to laugh--I haven't laughed that hard in a long time! I'm looking forward to more episodes!!Read full review »

The premise is simple: be hysterically funny with a few friends and leave a trail of advise in the comedy wake.
