Episodes
Mel and Kel are back from summer break! We missed you all! The first *twenty minutes* of this episode, we go on a long tangent catching up. So skip that if you want to get to the Twilight! (But you’ll miss us discussing scary movies, the show Lost, Aruba, etc.) This week we’re finally getting into the human characters of Twilight. Charlie, Renée, Angela, Jessica, Mike, Ben, Tyler, Lauren, Eric, and even random “who??” characters like Katie Marshall. Plus, we share a sound clip from Mel’s...

It's another round of Commentary on the Commentary, and this time, it's Eclipse with author Stephenie Meyer and producer Wyck Godfrey. That may seem like a random episode concept, but there's a ton of information to learn and discuss. So it would frankly be irresponsible not to cover!  Kel's sister and Mel's cousin Kaitlyn joins as our fact-checker in the corner of the room, and we hope you enjoy chirping frogs in the background!

It's our creepiest, most f***ed up episode yet...The Volturi! Kel and Mel discuss the Saga's villains according to the Illustrated Guide (plus some research on the side). We also ponder thoughts like: who would win, the Volturi or Voldemort? And why such similar names? Would Rosalie join the Volturi if she was invited? Is there hooking up going on in the lair? So many questions...

What influenced Stephenie Meyer when she created the Twilight Saga? Mel and Kel talk (over the phone) about the literature, music, and life events that inspired the books. Plus, Mel started reading the first chapter of Life and Death! Whaat! Tessa Violet and Lovelytheband's new music video replicates The Baseball Scene. And we discuss Stephenie's potential Twilight books in the future...

Wish the Eclipse movie was a little longer? Well, there are six deleted scenes to watch and overanalyze with us! This week we revisit Eclipse’s deleted scenes and wonder: did they make the right call? Is it more important to be faithful to the books—or try to make a good movie? Kel & Mel also read listener messages and get sidetracked talking about The Sims!

This episode previously aired on August 4th, 2020 on our Patreon. We've never shared our secret mini-episodes with the world before, so enjoy! But just a warning: our Patreon episodes are always a bit more raw and directionless, so don't be too disturbed.  Episode description: "We're baaaack! And Happy Midnight Sun Day!! This minisode will be released on Midnight Sun's publication date, so we haven't actually read it yet. Instead, we discuss like unlikelihood of a Midnight Sun movie, our...

Who are Bella, Edward, and Jacob really? This week we explore the characters through astrology and Myers Briggs personality types. Kel & Mel are admittedly not astrology experts (don't hurt us!), but Mel did her research. Then Kelly uses her Myers-Briggs obsession to attempt typing each character. We take the MBTI test pretending to be Jacob… and guess the trio’s Sex and the City types!

Last Tuesday, our Instagram account was shut down and all of our episodes briefly disappeared from Spotify, Apple Podcast, etc. We heard that tons of other Twilight fan accounts were shut down on Instagram, too. What's going on?? Is someone after us all?  Luckily (awkwardly) our account is back after lots of effort trying to get Instagram's attention. We talk about the whole situation, fandom on the internet, copyright vs. fandom, and social media on the whole.

Jacob, Leah, Seth, Sam, Paul, Quil, Embry, Jared...We're reading the Official Illustrated Guide again and this time, it's all about the Quileute wolves. And there's so much to discuss! Who is Embry's father?? What's up with the Children of the Moon? What happens if a werewolf is stabbed in the heart? Or if a wolf is married *then* imprints? Such drama. Plus, we try to come up with a new Twilight book name...

Kel & Mel cover the Official Illustrated Guide’s chapters on vampires and the Cullen coven, sharing details left out of the books. There’s a section about vampire FLUIDS, and we wonder why didn’t Carlisle turn Elizabeth Masen into a vampire. He wasn’t into her? Other thoughts: Esme is the only Cullen without a car; Jasper is possibly more tortured than Edward; and why did Stephenie Meyer choose to make Renesmee’s birthday 9/11?

Commentary on the commentary is back! Join us as we overanalyze Rob and Kristen's conversations from the 2010's Eclipse movie commentary. Those were flirty jokes between them, right? Was Rob making fun of Taylor? Was some dialogue cut out? Plus, sound clips! ♡

When Dan was young he mindlessly hated the Twilight series and would routinely delete the Cullen Mii characters Mel created on the Wii. Now that we’re older, Dan has decided to give the movies a shot. He joins us to discuss Eclipse and Breaking Dawn parts 1 and 2, which he watched for the first time.   If you heard him last year, you’ll remember Dan’s a hilarious and insightful guy. Is Renesmee a parallel for the birth of Jesus?? That’s just one of the many things Dan brings up…   P.S. We...

We thought Twilight was over for good with the last Breaking Dawn movie... but in 2014, The Storytellers: New Voices of the Twilight Saga short films debuted. Mel and Kel discuss the seven shorts that feature characters like Alice, Jasper, Carlisle, Esme, Benjamin, Garrett, Jane, Alec, and Aro.

We finally did it, it’s the Kristen Stewart episode! Here are over two hours to pay tribute to the Twilight Saga’s star, our leading lady, our everything. We’ll take you through Kristen’s childhood, teen years, the Twilight days, and everything she’s been up to since. Who is she as a person??? That’s what we’re trying to find out…   Instagram • Patreon

The movies aren’t the only ones with “deleted scenes.” Stephenie Meyer has shared excerpts that she cut out of the first two Twilight books, and Kel and Mel are here to discuss! But first, we have a little debate about starting Christmas before Thanksgiving, and watch the deleted scenes we missed last episode (oops!). You’ll hear sound clips for those and then we get into the book outtakes, some of which we LOVED, some not as much. P.S. Kelly tried with minimal DIY skills to fix the sound...

You guys asked for it—we watched and discussed the deleted scenes in Twilight and New Moon! For each scene, we asked: should they have kept it in the movie, or was it the right choice to cut?  In this episode, you can also expect: Kelly laughing for way too long at a scene that reminded us of "The Office" and "The Room"...how the Hales are "the bad kids"...scenes *in* the movies that feel like they should have been deleted...and a review of Midnight Sun by Kelly's mom! We'll be back with...

It’s the end of an era! It’s the last episode covering Midnight Sun. :( Though it’s sad, we had a lot of fun with the final chapters... Carlisle is suspected of plastic surgery. Kel & Mel rank the Cullen men. Kelly saying the word “crazy” probably a hundred times. We analyze Bella’s parents and James’ classic villain monologue. Plus, Stephenie Meyer’s very interesting acknowledgments page at the end. How does Midnight Sun’s word count compare to the Bible? We’ll tell you.   Patreon |...

This is probably our second-to-last episode covering Midnight Sun. Nooo! In these chapters, Bella and Edward go to “the Carlisle’s house” for the first time and Edward thinks about his time apart from his father. Jasper likes being near Bella, they play baseball, and the nomads show up. Laurent has the hots for Rosalie, and Alice is a very minimal texter, it turns out!    If you're looking for more of the podcast (whoa) and Twilight-inspired playlists, check out our Patreon here!

Before we sat down to record we said, “Okay no tangents this time.” Well, there were a lot of tangents (attachment styles, birthdays, astrology, random scene in Eclipse) and it’s a long episode! But hope you enjoy. ♡ Last time we shared our dislike for Bella’s favorite candy, black licorice. Some of you defended black licorice so we decided to have a taste test on the episode! Then we get into the book: the Cullens attend funerals of the people they kill, Edward wears a perplexing sleeveless...

It’s a long one, but this is a long book! It’s Midnight Sun season and this time, we compare a handful of passages to Twilight and see how Bella & Edward’s narration differs. Plus, we discuss Bella’s favorite candy (black licorice!??!) and Slate’s article about the hundreds of ‘murmurs’ in the Saga.   Like the first Twilight movie, we’re still super low budget and indie... but possibly the best thing you’ll ever experience!? ♡

It’s our 50th episode, wow! Take that, everyone who asked us in 2018 if we’d have enough to talk about. This week Kel & Mel continue reading Midnight Sun. ♡ Where we left off: Edward has become more and more preoccupied with Bella and despises everything Mike Newton does  We also play a voice message from our listener Kiyah!

She’s in our theme song and created arguably the best movie of all time—it’s Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke!! We talked to Catherine about her Twilight memories, inspiration, the audition tapes, and her new show ‘Don’t Look Deeper’ on Quibi. Mel lost power halfway through the interview, so don’t miss that awkward moment! It was so thrilling and such an honor to have Catherine on the show. You can see a visual version of this interview on our YouTube page! & Please excuse our DIY...

After waiting almost half our lifetimes, Twilight’s companion novel Midnight Sun is finally published! IT’S HERE! We discuss the first four chapters in this episode—“no need to rush the experience” as Edward says. AHHH! Plus, exciting news about Catherine Hardwicke, and we read a listener letter about Midnight Sun.

Hi guys! Today's episode is a little different than usual. We wanted to take some time to address and show our support for the recent Black Lives Matter movement and protests. These are crazy but important times, and we just felt we should speak up on it while also finding a way to tie it into our raison d'être, Twilight. Yes, we can relate it to Twilight.  We are also going on a little hiatus until August 11th. When we return, we will be ready to cover the first portion of Midnight Sun! In...
