This podcast gave me a very good notion of how Russia came to embark in this current trajectory. I found it because Vladimir Kara-Murza mentioned Boris Nemtsov as a very important person in his life and had a notion that he had been murdered, but I dis not know his story.

Listened from first episode to last and it kept me interested the whole time. I hope there are more of these podcasts as like many of us know nothing of Russia and would like to learn the real truths. Thank you for sharing this story.

I am Russian, and I was literally crying at some moments of this podcast. We will always remember Boris Nemtsov. We will always continue to fight for our freedom. We will always stay against the war. Thank you for this podcast. БОРИСь💚

I mostly started this show because of my love of Crooked media, and I didn’t expect to be so engaged. I listened to it all in two days. The universal is often best told through the personal, and through this personal story, you can see the emergence of the universal techniques of autocracy and...Read full review »

When he interviewed Navalny he never publicised it. Just put it in a book. Then saying Mos Cow?

I really liked the podcast as a perspective on the contemporary history of Russia. I very much sorry to what has happened to Zhanna’s family. This couldn’t have happened. Some points from the first episode looked exaggerated to me though which gave an aftertaste on the whole podcast. For...Read full review »

This series helped me understand a crucial transitional period of Russian history, and compellingly connects the personal lens of one of the producers to events in the world today. At only 6 episodes it's a very digestible series. Strongly recommend!Read full review »

This podcast has a great balance between facts, opinions, and reports from the time. Everyone should be listening to this, right now, in 2022.

I’ve heard Ben promote this series on Pod Save this World but assumed he was over-hyping it. I was wrong. I was totally drawn into the story of Boris Nemetsov and felt drawn to his daughter Zhanna Nemetsova. I binged the entire series in a couple of days.

One of the best things I’ve listened to, ever! As a student on the topic, and someone with Roots in Eastern Europe, I found this absolutely fascinating, excellently executed, and extremely informative! Well done, and perfectly timely!!

This was a great podcast, and I actually wish there had been more episodes. And I have to mention how much I loved the theme music by Martin Orswick — I looked forward to hearing it in each episode, and I wish I could buy it somewhere, it was that good — haunting and beautiful at the same time.

Both of the hosts of this one were great at conveying both the stakes in Russia as well as the love and loss of father and daughter. I learned a lot but was also touched and reminded of my own father. So, so well done.

Fascinating. So well researched and put together. Boris Nemstov is a man to inspire us all, a man willing to risk everything in order to fight for democracy. As Ben Rhodes implies in the last episode, his situation can be seen as a foreshadowing of our own troubles in America, with threats of a...Read full review »

I could listen to Ben Rhodes all day long. He makes being excellent sound easy.
