Flowers, beauty & femininity: Artists share inspiration behind their floral art | Dawn, KC, Christina|

Flowers, beauty & femininity: Artists share inspiration behind their floral art | Dawn, KC, Christina|

This week on our Arts to Hearts podcast, we have three guests who are featured in our book ‘101 Art Book: Floral Edition’. Our host Charuka Arora sits down with Dawn Bouchard, KC Christmas, and Christina Cowan to talk about their creative process, the hardest things they have faced as artists, and their experience of getting published in 101 Art Book. Dawn Bouchard decided to follow her passion after her retirement as a school principal, and now this is what she wants to do all the time. For the past 5 years, she has been painting and experimenting with acrylic paints and soft pastels. KC Christmas is based in South Carolina, and even though is a part-time middle school teacher, her first love is creating things and painting which involves acrylic paint and paper collages. Christina Cowan is from Connecticut, and while she is a social worker, she has been transitioning to a full-time artist. Her work involves oil where she also incorporates collages, poetry, and quotes in order to tell a story. For all three of our guests, the hardest part about being an artist is finding their style and managing the business side of it. This is something that rings true for many others, especially emerging artists, as the initial creative journey is all about finding your voice and how you can make the most out of your work. The creative journey is not all about the challenges, but also the rewards where the entire experience of creating something can be satisfying. It is all about taking inspiration from different elements and then using your art to bring those ideas to life, and for KC, Christina, and Dawn, that is what it’s all about! Our book ‘101 Art Book: Floral Edition’ has a stunning floral cover by Sonal Nathwani which also makes it a perfect addition to your coffee table. You can find inspiration in floral works by 101 artists and get mesmerized by their reimagination of something so simple yet so alluring; a flower. Order our book at the following link: .  Tune in to the full episode to listen to our three guests talk about their painting styles and the process that goes behind it all! Imposter Syndrome: One habit every artist must adopt to get rid of it |Susan diRende|

Imposter Syndrome: One habit every artist must adopt to get rid of it |Susan diRende|

This week on the Arts to Hearts podcast, we have Susan diRende as our guest. Susan has led a very fascinating life to say the least. Apart from being a painter, she has also been a teacher, has made some films as a writer, and spent a few years in real estate as well as a theatre company. Her books include ‘Knife Witch’, a fantasy adventure, and Unpronounceable, a sci-fi/fantasy farce. Susan continues to remind us that age indeed is just a number, and you can pursue your dreams as long as your heart is in it. She did various jobs to support her passion for making art, and today, she is still very much consumed by her ventures. Her biggest fear is that she will regret not having done enough, and so now she is making sure that that doesn’t happen! Susan’s positive energy is evident in the podcast as well as the Instagram reels she posts on her account. She believes in living each day to the fullest and showing up every day. Through her travel experiences and the work she has done so far, Susan has a lot to share. One thing she has learned from her life as an artist is to be consistent. Even if it’s a small thing, you must stick to it and do it every day as it is the one thing that has helped Susan successfully keep in touch with her inner creative. Susan’s philosophy in life is to seek novel experiences, as they are the ones that keep us young. She still loves to travel and takes things as they come instead of worrying over what she will do after a couple of years. This attitude has opened vistas for her, as she always tries to do things she has never done before, and in turn, this practice keeps her creativity alive! Catch up on this week’s podcast to listen to a very candid and lively conversation between Susan and Charuka, where Susan details the many adventures she has been a part of in her life! Why artists need to be more mindful on social media |Jennifer Rizzo|

Why artists need to be more mindful on social media |Jennifer Rizzo|

On this week’s Arts to Hearts Podcast, we have Jennifer Rizzo as our guest. Jennifer is a partner and director of Hashimoto Contemporary, and her focus is emerging contemporary art. In this episode, Jennifer talks about the hardest part of being in the gallery business, how she connects curators with artists, and how she feels about posting art on social media. For Jennifer, being in the gallery business is gratifying as she is able to do what she has always wanted to do; help other artists. With her skill set and years of experience in this business, Jennifer has learned quite a few things about curating shows and exhibitions. There is nothing Jennifer enjoys more than being able to witness the process and behind-the-scenes of an art show. As a gallerist, Jennifer has some tips to share for artists which include doing research and finding a gallery that is the right fit for them. It’s all about building those tiny bridges and creating a community, and Jennifer is spilling the beans on that! Jennifer and Charuka also have a heart-to-heart about how sharing work with the world can be daunting for some artists, and what can be done to get over that fear. Moreover, as a gallerist, Jennifer also emphasizes the importance of trust between a gallerist and an artist, and how artists must learn to have more faith in their abilities. Another fascinating topic Jennifer and Charuka touch upon is the power of social media and how artists need to curate their online image. Jennifer thinks that it’s important that artists focus more on authentically showing their art and process, rather than worrying about the aesthetics of their Instagram feed. Don't miss out on this insightful conversation as Jennifer sheds light on art and the gallery business, and tune in to this week's full episode! How to figure out your creative process |Studio Visits w/ Rajul Shah, Chilu, and Anne van Midden|

How to figure out your creative process |Studio Visits w/ Rajul Shah, Chilu, and Anne van Midden|

This week, our Arts to Hearts Podcast is a special one because we have not one but three guests! Chilu, Anne van Midden, and Rajul Shah are among the 50 artists that have been featured in our latest Studio Visit Book Volume 3, where you can read about their creative process through intimate photographs and revealing interviews. These artists talk about how art is a meditative process for them in some way, and while the final art form may differ, the act itself is deeply therapeutic. This week’s episode is an opportunity for our listeners to get to know these artists beyond the pages of our Studio Visit Book. Chilu, Rajul, and Anne also share what their art is about and what their creative process looks like. While Anne compares her process to choreography, Rajul shares an interesting activity that calms her and gets her in the 'creative mood'. Through their respective creative journey, our guests have gained quite a lot of insights, and hence, have some words of affirmation to share. Ultimately, what helps young artists is when they stay true to themselves. It works best when artists don’t listen to other people, but rather follow their own intuition and not let anything hold them back, as this is what these three amazing women have done! For all the artists and art lovers, this episode is not one to be missed as you will find several relatable moments and words of aspirations, so tune in to the full episode. Storytelling and art: Why your art needs to build a strong narrative |Kristin Hjellegjerde|

Storytelling and art: Why your art needs to build a strong narrative |Kristin Hjellegjerde|

This week on the Arts to Hearts Podcast, our host Charuka Arora sits down with Kristin Hjellegjerde who is a gallerist and a curator based in London. Kristin is also the curator for our upcoming book “100 Emerging Artists: 2024 Women’s Edition”. In this episode, Kristin talks about her curation process and the struggles she had to face in the gallery business without an art background. Selling art is not easy, but over the years, Kristin has become quite good at it. She always thought she would become a writer, but she jokes that she lacks the self-discipline for that. However, everything turned out perfectly for her as she was able to find her calling and choose a career she felt passionately about! From the outside, people simply see Kristin’s success, but a lot of hard work and sweat went into it. From creating relationships with the right people to building trust with the collectors, Kristin has done everything she can to make sure that she has a sustainable business that continuously grows despite any external variables. Right now, she’s running galleries in London, the U.S., and Berlin, and none of it came easy. As someone who started out without any funding or wealth, she had to learn some hard lessons at the beginning of her career. But it was her self-determination and constant struggle that enabled her to pull through everything that came her way.  Talking about her curation process, Kristin likes to follow her instincts and wants to be surprised by something she has not seen before. Being the curator for our “100 Emerging Artists: 2024 Women’s Edition”, she is looking for anything with a good narrative, whether it is photography, painting, or sculpture. Your art can be in any form, and the one way it will grab Kristin’s attention is by telling a good story! So tune in to this week’s full episode and listen to Kristin talk in detail about her journey as a gallerist and a curator!  Arts to Hearts Project is thrilled to announce the launch of our new call for art for a virtual exhibition, accompanied by the creation of an exquisite artist’s book. Lisa Ray on creativity, vulnerability, and launching TheUpsideSpace

Lisa Ray on creativity, vulnerability, and launching TheUpsideSpace

This week on the Arts to Hearts Podcast, we have a very special guest who is reinventing the art world with her creative act. Lisa Ray is not only an actor, author, and writer, but she is also the co-founder of TheUpsideSpace (TUS), a curator-led digital art platform that spotlights artistic expressions from South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. In this episode, Charuka and Lisa talk about putting yourself out there as a creative and why it’s important to create an inclusive art ecosystem. Lisa describes herself as a creative and wanderer, someone who never stopped exploring and refused to be confined to one creative label. While many know Lisa for her amazing acting chops, Lisa considers writing as her primary mode of expression and has also published her memoir “Close to the Bone”. She has also written numerous articles for magazines in India such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, etc. Over the years, Lisa has not lost touch with her creative side and is constantly finding ways to connect back to it. One such example is Lisa’s latest endeavor, TheUpsideSpace, which focuses on bridging the gap between traditional and digital arts. By focusing especially on art from places like Bhutan and Laos, TUS is making sure that the art world can become more inclusive towards artistic expressions that normally do not get as much spotlight as they should. The world is filled with creative minds, and all we need to do is think outside the box to create a space where all forms of art are welcome! Lisa is a huge proponent of reimagining and reinventing your modes of expression, and the path she has chosen as a creative is an inspiring one. She admits that TUS is ahead of the curve and that in itself should encourage anyone who also wants to bring about tangible change in the art world. TheUpsideSpace has put together some marvelous exhibitions so far, so do check it out on their official . In the meantime, tune in to this week’s entire episode and listen to Lisa talk about TheUpsideSpace and why she isn’t afraid of being vulnerable!
