Good history undone by a smug host
The host's history is well-researched, her theory very plausible, and I applaud her advocacy for the victims, regardless of their field of employment. What annoys me, though, is her smirking delivery. She rightfully tears into the Ripperologists who seem to take glee from all the lurid details they dwell upon, but she herself dwells upon their dwelling upon them. For example, Cornwell's knife-in-meat experiment is appalling, but how is offering up audio clips of that horror show along with the host's own horrified reactions any better? I agree that these ghouls and misogynists should be called out, but the smug, sighing tone Hallie uses to do so severely undermines her authority. I guess it's what makes the "murderino" podcasts so popular, but as a history student I'd have preferred a less personal and more academic delivery. It would've better helped her case for memorializing the victims.Read full review »
