“several pods are on this feed, just reviewing the main one w coach nick here.
overall solid content: good hoops talk, good guests, good topics (incl. non-bball ones), mostly good analysis, etc. politics stuff was actually cool and surprisingly well-done, too. show is a solid B+ but rapidly approaching A- territory (where A is reserved for my top one or two NBA pods). would give roughly 4.42/5 stars if possible.
coach nick seems to bust his behind on this + does his homework (even if he does periodically advance inexplicably negative opinions of a few extremely productive and entertaining players). mostly good insights, esp. on details about sets/strategy/etc.
only content critique is that sometimes (at least it feels to me like) nick's opinion of players' quality seems to be influenced by his opinion of them as people. maybe i'm off here, but just something to think about.
main paradox is the man behind the operation, coach nick. you will like him if you listen for a while. you might not at first. you might find him abrasive or a bit of a bloviator at first. he certainly can be both at times (as can many good pod hosts/sports ppl). but there is something genuine about him that will make you like him. you will periodically re-evaluate to make sure that you like him. you will almost certainly still like him and keep liking him (even when he advances bball opinions that you disagree with). kinda weird but i must say he is good at what he does and he seems like an interesting guy.
also props to nick for talking on the last ep about a problem involving racialized language from his coaching days -- seems like he was willing to listen, learned a legit lesson, + is a better man for it.
finally, nick if you are still reading this: you should have an entire ep where you invite nba writers on to debate the merits of westbrook's game (who btw you need to RESPECT!). thx + keep up the good work!”Read full review »
