Self care
I started a new job in January. My co-worker introduced me to your show. I now listen to it almost exclusively and have stopped listening to my ‘serious’ podcasts because of the nature of my job (county behavioral health). You both make me smile and laugh, I really appreciate you.
generally good, but…
This would be one of my favorite podcasts but it has a few major issues that hold it back from that, and some that cross over into “why do I still listen to this?” territory.
The first and most pressing issue is lack of understanding of comedic timing, and specifically failure to notice when a bit has gone on for too long. This becomes especially frustrating when one sibling interrupts the other trying to move on to the next review to continue an already-overlong joke. This issue also manifests in failing to let the other person talk, especially during the review readings.
There are a lot of bits that should probably be cut but aren’t, including every single instance of debating “should we leave this in?” and any time spent on in-jokes that are only funny to the hosts.
The hosts frequently don’t know what they’re talking about, even when it’s directly relevant to the topic and could be resolved with a simple google search before the recording session. This is always more frustrating than it is funny and comes off as lazy and unprofessional.
This show could be an A+ but instead it’s a middling C, and for entirely avoidable reasons that could be fixed by the hosts having better recording etiquette, more pre-recording preparation and more aggressive editing. You guys have been doing this show for a while, and what I’m noticing in newer episodes is complacency, not improvement. Other listeners I’ve talked to have stopped tuning in because of issues like this.
I’ve spent a lot of time listening to this show and I hope that you realize that I’m coming from a place of wanting to see this be the high-quality show that I know it could be, not a place of hate. But with that said, I know that if I keep noticing the same issues going forward, I’m not going to be willing to keep listening.
