“Tolkien” podcast only on surface
Wanted to discover some new podcast that was analysing the show through an actual Tolkienian lens but as I click and saw them Using CHATGPT to write “Tolkien” dialogue as a dig at actual writers who work day and night to create something (even if you may not like it) is disgusting at multiple levels and incredibly disrespectful to Tolkien himself. Tolkien in Letter 131 to Milton Waldman “I would draw some of the great tales in fullness, and leave many only placed in the scheme, and sketched. The cycles should be linked to a majestic whole, and yet leave scope for other minds and hands, wielding paint and music and drama” He wanted real artists to craft something from his sub-creation not a AI used by a fan so married to the Silmarillion (who’s ideas even Tolkien was always changing till last days of his life) Would recommend podcasts like Rings and Realms, or screenrants new rings of power podcast instead to people who actually used Tolkien to analyse the show from his own conflicting ideas in the silmarillion, letters and the unfinished tales. It’s a much more interesting conversation to have than just “but muh silmarillion” and ChatGPT. Hope the creators of this show take a long deep look at at what Tolkien was actually talking about.

I mean to read the Books again this year but haven’t read them in over 10 years, as I used to do so almost yearly. This is a gem of a reference. Podcast does a good job getting straight to the point of the main characters and main stories. Can’t wait to see where he goes.

But I found The Silmarillion harder going - so I’m finding this podcast very enlightening. Aaron...Read full review »

I even got inspired enough to finally read the Silmarillion, and man was it worth it. Such fantastic storytelling, and this podcast shows a greater appreciation for that than any...Read full review »
