Carter’s podcast reflects his considerable expertise, his appreciation, his insider and respected relationship with his subjects. Strongly constructed and well-considered questions open up subjects and illicit terrific answers—at length, too. Beautifully constructed, beautifully written. And...Read full review »

Bill Carter and staff have created an extremely high quality and insightful look into the world of late night entertainment. Excellent writing, narration, and interviews with many of the top players. An excellent companion to the CNN television series on Late Night. Wonderful viewpoints on the...Read full review »

I hope this never stops…. I have been a fan of Late Nite since the mid 70’s. This is terrifically done, and I hope it continues!

and lots of fun. Perhaps more so for people ~of a certain age~ who grew up with this. Nevertheless, extremely insightful and very interesting.

And Bill Carter is the perfect host for the podcast.

I could have sworn it was real. For ten years I had this dream that at 12:35 I was treated to an hour of smart, silly flippancy which featured a host as wise as Stephen Fry but as childlike as Soupy Sales. In this dream, this host would begin with puppet theater, delve into stream of...Read full review »

I love late night and this podcast is what I’m looking for! I’m also watching the TV series version of this also put out by CNN.

Bill Carter is wonderful- his detailed and thoughtful commentary inspired me to buy his book, The Late Shift. This is a good companion podcast to the CNN show for those who love late night and can’t get enough of the stories from then and now!

I discovered this quite by accident while listening to the very enjoyable "Carson Podcast". Both are absolutely wonderful! Bill Carter has done superb research and his narration is excellent. I am dreading finishing it, but fully intend to purchase from Audible his books on this topic....Read full review »

Very well-written, interesting, etc., but I was genuinely shocked after listening through every episode and not even once hearing Craig Ferguson or the Late Late Show mentioned. Extremely disappointing, and confusing, given Ferguson’s famously unique approach to the genre.

I’m a big fan of tv. I love watching documentaries and cnn has put together a great series on late night tv. The boast of this pod cast is quite good. I enjoy the history of tv late night. I’m a big fan of Johnny Carson’s tonight show. This podcast is a great companion to the cnn series. I...Read full review »

I listened to this without seeing the TV episodes. Carter has so much knowledge and credibility. The guests were great. The topics were well chosen. But this really isn’t a podcast. It’s a PR teaser for a show I’ll never watch. Carter is just stiffly reading the script. You only scratched the...Read full review »

If you’re a fan of late night shows, you’ll most likely enjoy the podcast. I was a bit too young for Johnny but spent most of my youth watching Dave, so especially like the Letterman stories. However, it’s six episodes in and still no mention of Craig Ferguson...what gives? Even if you’re not a...Read full review »

They have made so many fake stories that it not the same every since AT&T bought them they’ve become nothing but what Mr. Trump would call fake news they’re not doing reporting the way they should I used to love it as a truck driver I will always wanna watch CNN news to catch up on dates but...Read full review »

Great show, esp after reading Danna Young’s Irony and Outrage and Ronald Brownstein’s Rock Me On the Water.

Craig Ferguson was the best. He devolved the late night show, and put it together. His monologue of talking to the camera so you felt he was talking to you. Co-hosted by a skeleton robot and a horse. He chatted with his guests with lots of stickers over the words not allowed. His journey to...Read full review »

Really enjoying the podcast from Bill Carter. Great interviews with Amber Ruffin and Jimmy Kimmel. Great historical look-back and deep dive into all things Late Night.

…..then you will love the podcast I’ve nearly worn out both of Bill’s books covering late night and have bugged him on Twitter for a third covering the retirements of Dave & Jay and the current landscape - and this podcast should do wonders for that craving.

Sent to my Dad, my friends, everyone I know who’s been staying up late to watch these shows for decades. So much behind-the-scenes access and great guests!

A well-produced and compelling insight into the world of US late night TV. I’m a Brit but loved watching Letterman and Leno back in the day so this is great. It’s not just nostalgia though, touching in current shows too.

I thought I knew a good deal about late night, but I’ve already learned a lot from these two episodes so far. Shouldn’t be surprised given that Bill Carter has written two of *the* books on late night!
