“I love the icons series Jackie has done here. The effort put forth really shows throughout the series. My only issue is the consistent characterization of Jacob Blake as unarmed during the shooting. He was not, in fact, unarmed. The police reports and eyewitness statements both reflect that he had a knife and had resisted arrest even after being tased multiple times. I appreciate the focus on black athletes influence on social justice movement in the past and present, but in this particular instance I do not agree with the framing that he was another casualty of police brutality. Police brutality does happen and the police do have a racial bias from my perspective, but I do not think the Jacob Blake shooting was one of those instances.”
