Black Sheep
Having listened to a number of podcasts in this series, there’s a clear revisionist agenda both within the narrative or the episodes and the selection of ‘subjects’ scrutinised. Are we really to believe that of the 45 or so episodes to date, the fact that only 2 of these ‘ratbags’ being non-European is a balanced presentation of our past? It’s a dangerous business judging actions of the past by today’s social mores. How many of us feel confident that the norms of future generations will reflect kindly on our behaviours? No matter how laudable they seem now. Perspective and societal context is vital when analysing the past. There’s acknowledgement but certainly no sign of balance here.

As harrowing as it is these podcasts are they, provide so much detail about Aotearoa. Fascinating!

The episodes are short, but packed with highly interesting and entertaining stories about the history of New Zealand. One of my new favorites!

Black Sheep is a must-listen for me. It's insightful, intelligent and interesting - and fun! Great way to learn more about some famous and infamous incidents and characters in NZ's history, and some of the lesser known but should be better known stories too.Read full review »
