Liz and her team are true professionals so far shedding light yet again to the injustices of our legal system. The investigator should be investigated!!! Patiently waiting for the next episode to drop.

I will subscribe once I am assured that Deven is receiving a significant amount of funds (60 percent or more) for being the subject of this podcast. If the creators believe they are doing her a favor creating the podcast in the first place and making money off of her story, they are as bad as the...Read full review »

This is one story that had me yelling at times and crying about the facts in her case I’ve never felt so bad and disappointed with a case before ! Host is very very enjoyable not to mention her in depth investigation and research that was put in to this PODCAST IS SO APPRECIATED AND WAS...Read full review »

The detective clearly demonstrates that he has not been trained in DV trauma. He probably would do fine investigating burglaries and the like but had no business in a DV-related homicide - he was way out of his depth. His efforts to act as a human lie detector undercut his credibility.

Tells the entertaining and important story of Deven and how the justice system and our society failed her and many women who are victims of abuse. Thanks for the reporting.

This is a gripping podcast. It is hard to listen to. It is produced and researched well. I can’t wait for more.

Did you record devon's voice on a radio from 1920? The effect/filter is so annoying it's practically unlistenable. The constant switching back and forth just makes things worse.Read full review »

I don’t even give the podcast a chance if there is even one review of psychotic Brains promoting liberalism. I didn’t need to go down far to see you blindly marked a town as racist without facts.

god bless devon this is heartbreaking

Unbelievable. Alexis is making this guy out to be a saint. He didn’t even have enough drive to have a job to put his family in a decent home or have a freaking car. This extra girlfriend will take up with anything based upon those standards.

This story is so much scary than a horror movie and a gun?!? WOW….and I am sorry

Putting the race (or in this instance color) of the individuals is nothing more than salacious race baiting. No need for segregation in our world anymore. Explain to my why race needs to be mentioned in the show caption or front page advertising. It’s gross.

She would have ended up dead if she hadn’t killed him. This is so sad and such a tragedy for everyone.
Mimi9248 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 05/22/23
This cop was so blaintently racist. So sad she got sent to prison unfairly after years of abuse. The cop should be fired and sent to prison himself.
Kenright8 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 05/22/23
Already done because I live in Shelby County and there isn’t racism here. Calera is 30% black and 10% Hispanic- a far cry from “mostly white.” This is a story about a woman surviving domestic abuse, not racism. I’m so tired of the South being portrayed as racist. Please retire that rhetoric. This...Read full review »

This sorry reminds me of Believe Her. These women are literally tortured for years and eventually they hit a point where they truly believe it’s kill or be killed. Human instinct kicks in and they protect themselves. It’s horrible and we need to raise our men to be better humans.

This is the saddest and most unfair case I’ve heard yet of an abused woman being mistreated by our justice system. Reminds me of the Nikki Addimando case, but this case is even more open and shut! The man’s own family says he was controlling and abusive and they don’t blame Deven for killing him....Read full review »

This is the term I have heard used for people (majority women) who are abused and use self defense but are not believed (Believe Her podcast). I’m only a couple episodes in and all I’m able to think thus far is that the police are siding with anyone other than Deven because she’s black. I hope I find out in the end that it’s not the case. Clearly, what she did was not the answer, but it seems that she really feared for her life and had...Read full review »

If you were a fan of the first season of Serial, you absolutely won’t want to miss this. Blind Plea tells a story that otherwise would never have gotten told - a woman, brutalized into silence by first her partner and then by the legal system. This podcast is doing really important work. But...Read full review »

I wish there wasn’t a need to make this podcast. I wish there weren’t so many stories of women not being believed. But as an abuse survivor myself, I know that it is how the world is. All we can do is try to make these stories known and investigate the reasons why things end up this way. Thank...Read full review »

Jeez wow oh wow oh man. This is giving me BELIEVE HER vibes (and I loved BELIEVE HER) but this is taking things to a new level. Lemonada is outdoing itself again.

Binged all the episodes and the bonus content immediately. Great narration and incisive questioning of how a justice system can so fundamentally fail one woman by privileging some accounts over others. This show doesn’t pull its punches. Strongly recommend.

I can’t believe we are letting our mothers and daughters be treated this way by the justice system. It is heartbreaking and no justice at all.

After hearing the first two episodes, I could describe this podcast as a compelling true-crime drama, and worth binge-listening for the careful yet unsettling way its narrative unfolds. A rare and thoughtful account of how police investigators fail survivors. I have been waiting years for a journalist to have this kind of access to people and police records.
