“I absolutely love the performances by Gillian Jacobs and Josh Gad. I was enjoying trying to figure out the mystery, when I listened to the behind-the-scenes episode and found that the scriptwriters had no idea where the story was going. A critical moment in the last episode was improvised, giving them a new direction, which revealed that they started the show with no idea of a story arc.
This made me so angry. How could they start a murder mystery with no idea who the murderer was? The one thing you have to know about writing mysteries is - you can’t let the audience feel smarter than the script.
The story is riddled with inconsistencies, red herrings, and frustrating hints that are never picked up on. I am itching to get my hands on the script and fix it. I can’t say what I want to change because that would involve huge spoilers, but I’m so angry that these performances are wasted on such a sloppy scaffold.
It’s worth listening because the actors are terrific and fun. It’s better than most podcast dramas. But keep expectations medium, that’s all.”
