“LK and Mason are simply not skilful enough journalists to deal with these polarised times. Perhaps it was because they learned their trade at a time when politics was more in the middle ground and built around personalities and gossip. They trivialise and hypernormalise behaviour by public officials that deserves scrutiny and objective reporting. I’d say it’s style over substance but even their style is “Westminster goss for other journos”. I’d have thought that LK’s stenography of Cummings’ uncorroborated text messages during a public health crisis might have highlighted her pitfalls to bbc management. But perhaps that’s precisely why she’s stayed in the role. Keep us listeners fixated on superficial tattle - and deferent to the framing of right wing tabloids. More of the status quo…”
