Not enough here for a podcast series
This has all the trappings of a gripping true-crime podcast: an interesting situation, an unsolved mystery, people whose character pathology and bad behavior are on public display. Unfortunately, it's ultimately just not that engaging. I think the problem is that the podcaster's investigation doesn't actually turn up much relevant information. The one-paragraph summary turns out to be pretty much all you ever learn about the larger story. The podcasters weren't able to find anyone who knew the main characters well and was also willing to talk on the record. The closest they come is an assortment of loose associates who saw the family intermittently at progressive festivals. But those folks saw only the happy facade; they have little to say about the underlying truth or the actual dynamics at work. The podcast is a pretty good summary of broader media coverage of the case, but since so many of the particulars are ultimately unknown, it doesn't make for a very compelling narrative. I don't blame the podcasters. They did what they could, but sometimes there's just no story to tell.Read full review »

I cannot stop listening (even though there’s only two episodes). The research is phenomenal and the episodes are put together so well. One of the best new podcasts I’ve found in a long time.
