“The female host has a great voice for podcasting and a done a great job with stories about life as a longshoreman, cargo shipping and the a huge destination port in California. Facts, history & human interest.
Living on one of the Great Lakes we see these freighters in the distance. To get closer we watch them enter Hamilton Harbour in Ontario and marvel at pilots navigating the Welland Canal part of the St. Lawrence Seaway. It’s quite a sight when a huge freighter is in a lock looming larger than the little town it’s passing through giving the illusion it’s sitting on land. Loved the’ Pilot’ episode. Pilots are usually aboard the Welland freighters guiding them through the canal. Getting to be a tighter and tighter fit. Don’t scratch those canal walls! Because of their size it can take one cargo container ship a week to get through this canal system backing up many a pleasure boater sailing through the Great Lakes. Pilots fly a special pilot flag when on board.
I really enjoyed this podcast. Hope she makes more.”
