“I love this podcast series. Two Casefiles really hit home for me with the facts & details. Case 23: The Frankston Serial killer and Case 46: The Frankston & Tynong North murders.
I was only 13 when my best friend’s sister went missing. Her body was found in Tynong North. Her name was Ann Marie Sargent. Not a day goes by for my friend where she doesn’t think about her sister. It has been a life sentence for her whole family. Her mother died a year later. She had fought breast cancer but succumbed to it. Doctors believed it was the enormous stress & grief at the loss of her daughter that exacerbated her condition. My friend was 14 and had lost her sister & her Mother in under 2 years.
Case 23: I was living in Karingal, an area next to Frankston when women were being killed one by one by Paul Denyer. It was a terrifying time for all women that lived in the area. I would always check every room & cupboard when I got home from work to make sure I was safe. I shopped at Karingal Hub which I found out years later, Paul Denyer would hang around and often follow women to their cars. One Saturday morning, I was travelling down Skye Road on my way to work and saw police vehicles & police tape covering the track between Long Island Golf course & Peninsula Golf & country club. I knew it was something bad. I heard later on the news that Paul Denyer had killed a young school girl walking home through the track.
These were horrific times for family & friends of victims, but also terrifying for those living in genuine fear in Frankston & surrounding suburbs.”
