“I enjoy this show and learn from it. I suggest that Mr. Hartford present an episode about the fallacy of “real” currency exchange rates. As he surely knows, there is no such thing as a single, real rate. There are numerous exchange rates for individual pairs of currencies, depending upon various factors. I get a different rate depending upon whether I use, for example, a EUR denominated credit card to buy something priced in USD or buy USD with EUR at a bank or currency exchange counter at an airport. Which, please, is the “real rate”? I would add, of course, that a rigorous examination of this topic as a cautionary tale might jeopardize the sponsorship of Transfer Wise, which is peddling the notion that it offers the “real rate” to its customers. [Edited to delete erroneous reference to LIBOR, which of course concerns interest rates, not forex. Apologies for my error!]”
