Institute of Commonwealth Studies Centre for Postcolonial Studies Inaugural Workshop Address Professor Catherine Davies (Director, Institute of Modern Languages Research) Introduction to the Centre for Postcolonial Studies Dr Catherine Gilbert Panel 1: UK Centres Sanjay Seth (Centre for Postcolonial Studies, Goldsmiths) Kendrick Oliver (Centre for Imperial and Postcolonial Studies, Southampton) Ziad Elmarsafy (Comparative Literature, King's College London) Matthew Brown (Centre for the Study of Colonial and Postcolonial Societies, Bristol) Anna Ball (Centre for Postcolonial Studies, Nottingham Trent) Amina Yaqin (Centre for Cultural, Literary and Postcolonial Studies, SOAS) Bill Marshall (Centre for Postcolonial Studies, Stirling) Lucile Desblache (Centre for Research in Translation and Transcultural Studies, Roehampton) This workshop is intended to bring together heads of Postcolonial Studies research centre from across the UK and beyond in order to discuss potential collaboration. It aims to determine what sorts of activities would be of benefit to the broader community of researchers in Postcolonial Studies and how the CPS can act as a facilitator. A key goal during this workshop is to set a theme bringing in different specialisms and disciplines with a view to collaborating on a large, interdisciplinary conference in September 2016. Outcomes: This event will mark the start of a longer-running network focused on shaping the future of postcolonial studies across the UK and beyond. A funding proposal will be submitted for a networking grant in order to run the conference in September 2016 and further targeted workshops, with the aim of producing a publication in 2017 in the form of either and edited volume or special issue of a journal.
