    19 - Legislation

The Childers fire is considered the worst arson attack in Queensland history. The after effects were far-reaching with local businesses and the tourism industry taking both a financial and reputational hit. Solutions needed to be found and that started with fixing Queensland's inadequate fire safety laws.

    18 - Memorial

It took just two years and four months for the Palace to be re-opened following a full re-build on the site of the exisiting hostel. There was considerable consultation with the community and the victims' families before agreeing on what would be a stunning memorial to the Palace 15. But getting to that highly emotional unveiling was far more complex than Council had first imagined.

In the months after the fire, Council commenced its plan to restore the Palace and bring about some normality for neighbouring businesses affected by the June 2000 tragedy. Moving stories

I am only about halfway through the podcasts- and I am having a hard time taking a break from the emotionally moving and gut wrenching tales told by Paul. I had not heard of this tragedy living in the USA, but now, it is one I will never forget. My thoughts and prayers to the survivors and all the people who lost loved ones and my thanks to the people who were and are the helpers.

Simply Beautiful

One of the most thoroughly produced, haunting podcasts I’ve ever listened to. The commitment to the telling the stories of each victim, as well as the survivors, is an incredible tribute to what they endured. And the illustration of how the community came together to support them is an important reminder of everything we can and should offer to others in the darkest moments. I’ve never been so moved by a podcast like I am by this one. Simply beautiful.
