I love music. I am also an avid consumer of history and music pod casts. This is the best pod cast in any genre I have ever heard. I am literally an addict. Please keep going. I would love to hear your take on the Outlaw Movement of the 70s. I think you have access to some pretty solid primary...Read full review »

I love your podcast. Very interesting artists in your selection. Particularly the Louvin Brothers. I cant seem to get enough details on their music and life. I am from central Louisiana and there are a couple brothers named the Whitstines who had remarkably similar voices and made it somewhat...Read full review »

As entertaining as this podcast is, it really stands as a collection of excellent journalism. These podcasts about country music are as informative, illuminating and meticulously researched as any pieces you might find in respected newspapers or national magazines. Mr. Coe has created an...Read full review »

The girl who cuts my hair said, “you need to listen to Cocaine and Rhinestones.” I forgot to listen the first time she recommended this podcast. The next time I got my haircut she asked, “have you listened?“ Soon as I got home, I logged on — I can’t quit listening.

What a great show. Can’t wait for the John Hartford episode. Dude was a steamboat captain, that definitely deserves an episode.

Really enjoying this content. Made by a man who clearly loves music and the people who make it. Sorry I’ve come so late to the party. Please keep it going. Thank you.

Please do an episode on the Stoneman family. Also… why are the prologues in season two so long? I had to listen to 25 minutes about bullfighting before I got to information I cared at all about. I see what he’s attempting to do and I appreciate it but literally a third of the episode was about...Read full review »

I am absolutely loving this podcast so far. I just started listening from the beginning and I cannot stop. The research is great and the way the stories are put together is fantastic!

Informative, fair, and entertaining. I just started from the beginning, and I’m only five episodes in, but this is now one of my favorite podcasts. Thanks so much!

You made me love ET all over again . I love podcasts, and could listen to Coe’s genuine, whineless, sans nasal voice all day. Maybe I will! Thanks

Conner Lastowka from the 372 Pages We’ll Never Get Back podcast mentioned this on an episode and now I’m hooked.

The first season is absolute genius but the second lost a lot of people since it focusses nearly completely on George Jones. Very well done well researched but loses something in the second season. Let's hope season 3 is a return to form.Read full review »

Make no mistake about it, the introductions provide essential contextualization for subjects that no one has treated with greater depth and analytical precision. I do. However if any podcast could use a ruthless editor this is it. Mr Coe meanders a bit and the seemingly endless introductions are just getting worse. As a rule every episode of season 1 is better than season 2 not due to actual content but with less filler. Advice to listener is to skip...Read full review »

This podcast was recommended by a Reddit post. So glad I found it. Great storytelling of great stories.I don’t get the random stories told before the topic podcast though. I want to hear about the topic… not the history of bullfighting or knights.

I’ve been debating but now I know that after today’s Dallas Frazier episode this is in fact the greatest podcast in the history of podcasts.

The first episode about Earnest Tubb was great but you got me hooked when you declared George Jones the greatest ever! Can’t wait to hear the rest! I’m up to the Harper Valley PTA episodes now. I’ve been nerding out on this podcast for a while. Seems Coe got popular at podcasting before he got good at podcasting and his art suffers. The little bad habits from the decent first season, tangentially related and overly long song clips along with using random asides as story hooks, are blown up in the second as he's yet to embrace...Read full review »

I thought the first season was really good. The second season, though journalism, is also a work of art. The research is impeccable, and the delivery is flawless. I can not recommend this enough to anyone who is a country music fan, or a fan of storytelling at its finest.
