A great repository!
A top notch listen. I grew up during the 80’s and so didn’t really appreciate the complexities of the political situation of the time, I did for some reason have GDR flag in my room as a child, no idea where it came from or how it ended up in South West Wales, it was just useful for keeping the sunlight out. Through out the years as I’ve grown older and learnt more about the GDR I’ve sought out more and more info on the Cold War. This podcast is a great repository of knowledge for a period of history that is now starting to get more distant by the day. Whilst I’m very interested in military history it’s the stories of ordinary people and their lived experiences outside of the usual tanks and planes that really help flesh out the story of the Cold War. Thank you for helping preserve the stories of this period and your book recommendations mean my shelves are begin to buckle!

Still enjoying these podcasts and the Sabine/East German Childhood episode was fascinating. A very honest account of what must have been an unusual childhood but far more complex than we could imagine. Great interview!
