An intersectional feminist take on the hit reality TV show, Survivor.

Episode 8: You should have listened to the girls

Episode 8: You should have listened to the girls

Alexis and Tyler talk about how sexism still plays a big role in Survivor and our culture at large.
Angelina the schemer clarifies everything from last tribal. Dan will come to eat his opening words. #TBT Eve and the serpent??? idk where women as snakes started, but there were some shades of sexist commentary from the screenwriter Gabby is emotional and That's Okay Another male with another idol, love to extend *that* streak (but Davie was amazing with that stick segment, lbr) Kara is an absolute badass and we kneel at her subtle challenge prowess. Dan again eats his words. This is more immediate than the first time. Unfortunately another bout of doubting Carl and Davie's intelligence, with a side of doubting Gabby's leadership abilities HI UM THAT PLAN WAS ANGELINA'S IDEA LAST WEEK, BUT GLAD WE'RE ON THE SAME PAGE NOW THAT MIKE PITCHED IT. AWESOME. :) we stan feminist Angelina, this deserved a separate bullet point Probst on fans calling Angelina "bossy or arrogant" and how that differs from the way men are perceived on the show (ok jeff, ok) Dan talking down to Angelina about being the decoy vote *eyeroll emoji* John's words of wisdom: you get what you give

Episode 7: And that’s why you should be with me

Episode 7: And that’s why you should be with me

Alexis and Tyler dissect the merge dynamics, which leads to some unfortunate stats by the end of the episode.
BRO-CHA-I’m done hearing this tbqh Merge feast: at least we know the women are still looking for idol clues Carl vs. Elizabeth continues Dan + Kara continues as he blabs about his second idol Alec totally bro-ing out with the dudes and picking up the girls, I guess Strike Force Assemble Alison with the W, atta girl.  Dan freaks, Kara remains calm when Dan’s name is brought up… which is the overly-emotional gender again? Angelina’s brute force and ultimate failure Gabby intentionally leaning in on the perception of weakness Some COOL STATS

Episode 6: Do it for the fantasy league

Episode 6: Do it for the fantasy league

Alexis and Tyler discuss unconscious bias and another missed connection, this time between two WoC.
Angelina was being super fake, but at least now everyone knows it Christian gone fishin' Bro-cha-chos, and Gabby taking her fate into her own hands, because "hope is not a strategy" The unfortunate use of "lazy people and stupid people" and unconscious bias in the whole bamboo debacle Another failed race/ethnicity connection, this time Latina Boys will be boys* (*have all the power) The unfortunate two-time scenario of Mike voting out his fellow LGBTQ alliance members

Episode 5: Eating my own words

Episode 5: Eating my own words

Alexis and Tyler have a go at gender roles and power structures on Survivor and IRL.
Kara is the ultimate charmer, hear her charm Elizabeth not buying it tho? ~Evacuation Interlude~ Brochachos, AKA the latest Survivor Boys Club on steroids Green....... loses?!?!? Because of course Elizabeth has gone slingshot squirrel hunting before Listen to Lyrsa about the eggs, people Oh goodie, a man finds another idol, as if Gabby would have risked going out alone and looking when she's in a precarious situation—so yeah, we talk about gender roles John's humility in giving the reigns to Christian Lite-bullying: this is how power structures can go awry, good for Nick for recognizing it and not giving in NATALIE CAN I HAVE YOUR JACKET NATALIE

Episode 4: Watch me eat my words

Episode 4: Watch me eat my words

Alexis and Tyler analyze the tribe swap and how something so simple as demographic differences puts people on the outs.
Bi lite-quits. What has this music been? Dan is sad he's not with Kara, so I guess his fun is ruined now. :( "I haven't befriended many caucasians" and why Davie is the best Natalia on the outs with Elizabeth and Kara and how religion could play a big role in that Who gets sent to the one-time Exile Island, and why it's a man... of course. Natalie is the boss and there's no way around that fact, twenty-something-year-olds. (That goes for you too, Mike.) The Rockstars are born Christian assimilates with the Goliaths, leaving Gabby on the inevitable outs. "I do better around weirdos." GABBY DOMINATES THE CHALLENGE THO. Natalia goes home, male pride wins (again)

    Episode 3: Passport to Slamtown

    Episode 3: Passport to Slamtown

Alexis and Tyler discuss "where is the brotherhood?" and the rift between Jeremy and Natalie.
Gabby thrown under the bus by her own (male) alliance partners, pitting woman against woman with Bi "Boss bitch" Natalie Men being... openly emotional? This is nice! Natalie asks, "where is the brotherhood?" Clearly, Jeremy has none to spare. Angelina digs her heels in with the Goliaths Jeremy's downfall and his inability to let go of Natalie, even in the exit press Invisible female edits, hoo boy.
