Farewell
Well, I've finally learned my lesson. John P and The Commentary Magazine Podcast worthies will not even entertain the possibility that the events of January 6th, while deplorable, did not constitute an insurrection. Most recently, John P made this point starting around the 36 minute mark of Episode 590. While discussing a lengthy Washington Post feature on January 6th, John described those who don't agree with him that Jan 6th was an insurrection as believing instead that it was a tourism event. No John, we believe that it was a deplorable riot by several hundred (among thousands) who went on to trespass and damage property in the U.S. Capitol. That explains why those charged to date have been charged with trespassing and property damage rather than insurrection. Interestingly, John didn't sound all that exercised about the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs assuming power unto himself to which he had no right. Most interestingly, John destroyed his own argument for insurrection in minute 46 when he said there was all this cos playing of an insurrection in the sense they had no plan, they had no purpose, they had no marching orders, they didn't know what they were doing or where they were going.... The mob was so ignorant, not that they should have, but real coup plotters should've known which way to go.... Cosplaying is cosplaying John. Not the real thing. Noah and Abe continued by arguing that the Right are keeping the Jan 6th mythology alive with silly concerns about those jailed for months without charges or trial and Ashli Babbitt, the 5'2" 115 pound unarmed threat to the Republic shot and killed by a man identified only months after the event who struck me as being delusional when recounting the events of the day. At least the Capitol Police investigated and cleared themselves. That kind of transparency should put even the most conspiratorial minds to rest, don't you think Noah? I could go on, but I won't. I've felt compelled to submit reviews on the worthies' treatment of this topic not because I've felt the need or the desire to defend President T. I've done so because the worthies are so dismissive of those who have in good faith reached a different conclusion about the events of Jan 6th. Others, equally informed and serious, can simultaneously conclude that the events of Jan 6th did happen and that what occurred, while unquestionably deplorable, did not constitute an insurrection. I think John P knows that the preceding is true, but he doesn't have the wisdom (as opposed to intelligence) or humility to admit it. I've listened regularly to The Commentary Magazine Podcast since it's inception, and I finally realize that John P has little or no respect for those like me he considers uninformed, unserious and (if John were to be completely candid) a little bit kooky. While sad, thinking so is John's prerogative. It's his podcast. He and the worthies do the daily heavy lifting that must not be easy. My prerogative is to stop listening if I choose to do so. And that's what I'm choosing to do. Farewell.Read full review »

Listen to a lot of political center right podcasts and this is easily the best. Very smart and evenhanded. Give it one listen, you won't go back.Read full review »

John, Abe, and Noah keep me company twice a week while I walk, drive, or cook. I'm addicted to this trio of smart, funny, heimish guys. If you are a politics junkie, especially a conservative coping with the trumpocalypse, you should listen.

This was my first Commentary podcast. As a Brit. I enjoyed the accents of the contributors. The velvet tones wrapped some steely logic and analysis, which provided depth and breadth relative to the media on this side of the Pond.
