You guys can do better than this
I really want this show to be better than it is. I think Canadland (particularly shortcuts) is must listen to podcasting. And as someone who can’t get enough of political discourse I wanted this show to work, but it’s falling really flat and unfortunately perpetuating millennial stereotypes of being in an identity politics leftism echo chamber. In fact, whenever there is a guest that is remotely to the right (except economic right ironically, odd) the hosts pounce all over them and refuse to even engage with the premise of their ideas and seem to be ready to shout them down from the get-go. The show perpetuates bad habits of the new left and as a show designed to essentially teach young left-leaning Canadians about their politics is probably doing a bit more harm than good in this regard. However, I will say since the hosts are in a flux and the format is changing slightly things are getting a bit better. In an ideal world when you choose your second host they will be someone slightly more willing to push ideas in a less hyperbolic direction.

They're reflective, pick great guests and I'm actually glad that they're being inclusive of non-political savvy people. I don't get why other are up in arms over they're explaining.Read full review »
