Good concept, but...
I'm sorry to say I didn't like this novel because the idea is completely awesome: a search for the hidden treasure of the CSA, interleaved with the story of the origin of part of the treasure. The execution was lacking. The dialog was not believable except for maybe the over-the-top southern gentlemen (also an unbelievably immoral preacher). The events of the story were not thrilling at all -- 2 guys drive somewhere, have a single encounter, and the story's over (with a completely unbelievable outcome). A lot of time is wasted on unnecessary things. For example, there was extensive backstory for a minor character who should have become a major antagonist had he interacted with the main arc for more than 5 minutes. Most of the time it was a diatribe defending Southern values. Maybe it's my fault for expecting a thrilling adventure.
