Entertaining but some questionable statements
Longtime listener of train wreck but sometimes think Phoebe forgets that her audience is not all white working professional females who want to be skinny. Her latest episode about her ick being people trying to pronounce pho correctly is… at least they’re trying? As someone who is a POC hearing someone two white girls laughing about Asian food is just not great. Her friends advice to “just be normal” , although I know is a joke it’s just so reinforcing of the “don’t be weird” / mean girl message that is not inclusive. This is also seen how no guests/ friends seem to be POC except for Lauren and Shad (perhaps?) and so no knowledge or insights from her friend base. A variety of guests would also help improve the topics they speak about (so many episodes about fitness and money hacks). Idk if she notices but she mentions trying to be skinny all the time. I find it funny as someone who struggles more with overeating and emotional eating the hyperfixation on being skinny and the guilt she describes for eating small quantities of food - everyone has their struggles with food, but perhaps an episode exploring where different food issues come from rather than one where her audience could have the opposite problem - if you felt guilty for eating carbs and white bread, how bad should I feel for binge eating a packet of chips in one sitting??
