Interesting topics and a jerk for a host
Tyler is very logical, but lacks the emotional intelligence needed for a good podcaster or a person who sets public policy: he is a high systematizer and poor empathizer. There are cases where he drinks the micro-econ kool-aid without abandon. Examples include assuming that a person whose income is low is not valuable to society so their death or suffering doesn’t matter (climate change comments); and assuming that providing people all the information will allow them to make better rational decisions in spite of evidence of limited fact retention about individual topics. Now he has people on his podcast and talks about jargon, and when the guest asks whether they should explain the obscure topic, Tyler says that the conversation isn’t for the listener. His demeanor seems designed to show that he smart, but it just shows that he has obscure obsessions and is an out of touch jerk.
