This is so great I’ve been waiting for a show like this. Would be super helpful if ingredients were in the show notes but just a small suggestion. Thank you!!!

I’m a feminist white male that recognizes white privilege and tries to fight it when I see it, but to start a sentence with “white people” and proceed to use a litany of micro-aggressions to shame us seems a bit too aggressive for a cooking show, which your title implies. Call your podcast...Read full review »

THIS IS THE GREATEST PODCAST. This is my first listen. A little disappointed that Ijeoma didn’t teach us how to make the african food she described BUT this podcast is so wonderful. It honors the real value of cooking and sharing food by creating space to talk so beautifully about tough subject.

Each episode isn’t only about food, rather the cooking experience serves as a backdrop to the guests and provides an opportunity to learn about them. I loved the episode about Tommy Pico whom I had never heard of before. Each episode is informative and really interesting. More pleaseeeee!

I just listened to the Masimoto episode and it was amazing! I learned how to make aioli which for some reason I thought you had to be a professional chef or french or something to make, And more, stories about being queer in Central Valley ( another thing I didn't know you could do) , peaches...Read full review »

Tuning into this podcast is like coming home and cooking with a friend after a long day. It’s such a thoughtful dose of story, food, and character in my ears. I also love all the queerness up in here - cooking can feel like a straight space, but they did such a nice job getting guests that can...Read full review »

Amazing line up of diverse interesting, funny people. You see a side of them you never knew they had because they aren’t normally associated with food! So cool

I have listened to all the episodes and have so enjoyed the authenticity in the conversations. It is such an enjoyable experience listening to them cook, whether you follow along or not. Each episode is so unique and through food/cooking with the guests it feels like you get to know them in a...Read full review »

Although I didn't make the intuitive leap when I heard about it, after listening to an episode I realized that it's a perfectly viable medium to learn to cook. And I also realized that Cal could probably teach people to cook using LEGO blocks or interpretive dance. His enthusiasm is...Read full review »

My first episode was Big Freedia and her booty poppin’ potatoes. It was like being in the kitchen with family again and I LOVED it! I was making a different meal that day, but best believe I made those potatoes the next night. I’ve been culinarily inspired ever since! Keep the great episodes coming.

Amazing podcast that makes it informative and fun to cook. Thank you Cal for this gift to the cooking (and want to be cooking) public!

I’ve known Cal for over 25 years and his passion for food and life is contagious! I could listen to his stories and his descriptions of food for hours. Pop open a bottle of wine, plug into Cooking by Ear, and prepare to be transformed!

When listening to this podcast I have: 1) drooled 2) cried 3) laughed out loud 4) and made a fantastic meal (frittata with swiss chard and asparagus risotto!) Cal is one of those people who teaches cooking effortlessly; it feels like he's your own personal cooking coach, no judgement, pure...Read full review »

This podcast combines cooking lessons (really good cooking lessons), with great conversations. I never expected to hear about the history of a Native American tribe during a lesson on frittata or about laughter and chai while I learned to make fatoush. Every episode has touched something deeper...Read full review »

As a non-cooker, I've been listening to this podcast hoping to pick up enough tips to make my wife a meal once in a while. Whether that happens or not, I've thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with Cal in the kitchens of Frances McDormand and Alexander Payne, picking up tips on acting,...Read full review »

I love to cook and I love hanging in the kitchen chatting it up. Such a fun idea. I love this podcast! Only issue is I want more of them! Thanks!

What a wonderful show. I absolutely loved how the act of cooking was mixed up in the guest interview, and how much it informed the conversation. It was so fascinating to learn about people's food histories and hear about how cooking/food has shaped their lives. Fave new show, recommending to...Read full review »

This is such an ingenious idea: a rich, well designed listening guide to making a meal all while listening to delightful, insightful, meaningful conversation. Love Frances and her philosophies. Thank you for creating this and stretching the podcast world! Bravo!!!!

I love this new podcast. I bought Cal’s books, Twelve and The Recipe. He writes beautifully and all his recipes are carefully written and work.

This is a fun way to learn new recipes and feel like you have friends with you in the kitchen. I can’t wait for more!

I just spent some quality time with some friends in the kitchen. It's so familiar, so inviting, I was transported to the room and this is why I love to cook. The restraint in recording, where I hear the dishes clink and knives clank and I might miss a word because they turned away from the...Read full review »

This is such a great idea. I felt like I was cooking right alongside these two masters. I love the awareness it brought to the acoustics of cooking. So fun, so entertaining, so well done! Can’t wait for the next episode.

So much fun to be a fly on the wall while these amazing people cook risotto! Next one I’ll try to listen and cook at the same time!

The show is super well produced and doesn't have any annoying food chewing sounds that would have made me turn it off. The host is easy to listen to and had an easy rapport with his guest. I like that while we made a dish with Frances McDormand, what was more interesting to me is that we...Read full review »

Growing up I had always wanted to cook, but didn’t know where to start. Instead I just watched my mother cook. When I finished college I was gifted Cal’s first book. I related so much to it, sometimes forgetting the book was wrote for his son and not I. Years later I am much more comfortable...Read full review »

I’m no home chef - I have my three dishes I can make and that’s it. I was skeptical I would be able to make a risotto from scratch, but I tried it one night when I was home alone, with a glass of rosé, and I have to say, I had THE BEST NIGHT! I made a bomb risotto, and got to eat it along with...Read full review »
