Not your usual 'true crime' podcast
Criminal describes itself as being "not so much 'if it bleeds it leads'" true crime, and that's exactly right. To put it in the true crime genre is accurate, but associating it with podcasts that are salacious, sensationalised serials on murderers is like chucking Jane Austen in with Mills and Boon novels. It looks at crime in the broadest sense, sometimes interviewing perpetrators or victims of crimes, but also looking at the criminal justice system (sometimes outside of the US), the crimes we don't think about (streaking at major events? Placing a large statue of a Buddha on public property?) or the people involved that we aren't aware of (episodes on the witness protection system and 'The Bodyfarm' come to mind!). Amazing, devastating, true, brilliant. Phoebe Judge is masterful at crafting a story. The stories she finds... Fabulous. I listened to the first on HowSound then listened to all 6 in a row because I was entralled. Brava Phoebe, Brava!
