TV Time Machine 7: March 1999 - Sex and the City, Smack The Pony, The Grimley's and the final House Party

Luke's not well enough for a full trip to March of 1999 aboard the Time Machine. So Dawn Glen bravely joins Matt to examine the TV landscape 25 years ago this month. First, Channel 4 launches HBO's Sex and The City. On ITV, gentle Brummie comedy The Grimleys starred written by Line of Duty's Jed Mercurio. Channel 4 launches female led sketch show Smack the Pony whilst the BBC waves goodbye to one of their biggest hits of the decade, as Noel hosts one final (slightly bitter) House Party.

#423:Girls5eva, Palm Royale, Manhunt, The Gone

Luke, Matt and Dawn return to review 4 brand new shows debuting this week. First, one of the funniest shows on television as Netflix becomes the new home for Peacock's Girls5eva. Then we travel to the swinging '60s for Apple's confused new comedy drama Palm Royale. Staying with Apple, we look at historical drama Manhunt, which charts the hunt for Lincoln's assassin John Wilkes Booth. Finally, the trio review BBC Four's new acquisition a strange hybrid crime drama which dips its toes in both Ireland and New Zealand in the oddly titled, The Gone.
There's also discussion on series 2 of Extraordinary over on Disney+, Things You Should Have Done on iPlayer, Ted on Sky Max and Fargo Season 5 available on Prime Video.

In your face!

I love these guys(occasionally there's a woman's perspective). This is not a deliberately polished BBC-style arts review but a hectic whirlwind of reviews and observations about the multifarious TV progarmmes on offer these days. Luke, Gary, and Matt mostly cover drama, which is fine with me, and are very good at summaries, given they often review stuff as it comes out. They don't always stick with certain shows but that's fair enough, considering how much they watch. The silly digressions and laid-back approach works really well with me and I listen as much for their zany humour as for the content they're reporting on. It's a great endeavour that's been going for many years. Keep it up, guys!

I love their silliness and their love of TV

I found these guys after looking for podcasts about Broadchurch. In addition I found discussions about Luther. I'm in the states, so I'm not familiar with all the shows they talk about, but that doesn't stop me from subscribing to their show. I could listen to them read the alphabet - I'm a sucker for a British/English accent. Plus, they make me laugh. They're giddy and joyful. Keep up the good work.

Don’t waste your time

This is a rubbish podcast, with content and production values that harken back to the early days of podcasting. The hosts are more or less inarticulate, and I soon lost patience for all their errs and erms. For all the blather they had precious little to say about the Broadchurch Series One Finale. I couldn’t bear to listen to it and switched it off after the first 15 minutes or so.
