Best History Podcast, but...
Best history podcast on the web. Period. I've tried other podcasts, but they all seem to be reading off a script. Unlike Carlin they don't seem to understand that story telling has to be like jazz, with improvising and the occasional digression. He probably has bullet points or a loose script that he follows, but you can tell he's speaking off the top of his head. He knows the basic outline and he riffs from there. And I also can't imagine the amount of research that goes into this. It's like every episode is it's own audiobook. However, for the love of god Dan, will you try to speak in a steady tone of voice? It seems to go from barely audible (no pun intended) whispering to SHOUTING AT THE TOP OF HIS LUNGS! This is very annoying when listening, especially with earphones. Because one minute your cranking up the volume to hear what he's saying (especially if there's background noise), then he decides to read a quote, and you have to ram your hands into your pockets to turn down the 150+ decibels that being trumpeted into your poor eardrums. Full disclosure: I know youre not going to heed this advice. I just wanted to poke fun at you. Awesome podcast. Keep up the great work.Read full review »

Interesting and insightful. The only changes I would make are a little toning down of his delivery--just a little bit--(sometimes he sounds too much like a preacher for my taste) and shortening up his intro. Other than that, keep up the good work!

This is a great podcast - it is thought-provoking, in-depth, and well-produced. Dan does an excellent job of putting a new twist on history that makes it more than just names, dates, and facts. I can't wait for the next episode!Read full review »
