A faithful son
As Dante was besotted with Beatrice I became besotted with the Comedy last year. I read it daily and look into every commentary I come across. I find these detailed examinations of each canto fascinating and insightful, deepening my understanding and enhancing my delight. They are so valuable because they go beyond the things covered in most notes to the text and illuminate Dante’s brilliant psychological insights in particular. I have one reservation. When commenting on what Dante says about the Church, the speaker does not always distinguish between the secular institutions of the Church and its spiritual nature as the mystical body of Christ. This concept, unique to Catholic ecclesiology, is central to the Catholic understanding of achieving salvation and something of which Dante, as a faithful son of Church, was well aware. Notwithstanding this I thoroughly enjoyed these talks and very much hope the speaker will cover Paradiso also. Every lover of Dante is in his debt.

The analysis and epistemology are excellent. It is a concise and classical observation of Dante. It is very enjoyable. I hope the host takes time to also produce a series for Paradise Lost by John Milton.
