Some compelling episodes but narrow perspectives dominate
I find some of the hosts’ comments relatable but overall I am struck by how much this podcast feels like a show hosted by and for white 20-somethings. The best episodes were the ones featuring Margena Carter (a black woman; totally unclear if any other guests were people of color) and Logan Ury because their perspectives were informed by real expertise, whereas other guests were typically just giving personal opinions that, like Ilana’s and Jonah’s, were somewhat narrow and/or shallow, and thus unhelpful for a broad audience. And in the later episodes I was pretty annoyed by (1) Jonah’s super problematic dating theories, which at least Logan Ury pushed back on gently; and (2) the way in which some guests didn’t really add much to the conversation or answer the hosts’ questions in thoughtful ways, either because they were unprepared or because Ilana and Jonah asked them pretty leading or otherwise unhelpful questions (and often jumped in with their own extended answers). Tl;dr good concept, but execution needs work to make this consistently good quality — and to make this podcast inclusive for people outside the white 20-something demo.
